Wooden Saints is a dynamic collective of musicians. The songs are the center around which the musicians move themselves. The début album I know why your house is on fire sees the light in 2011, and can be described as an exhibition of styles and ideas. Alice has a way of trippin’ over branches, sung by Jelle Paulusma, breathes psychedelia. Platypus flirts with Motown. Waving at the lions sounds like it came straight from Montréal and listening to I’d rather have you just for now, the Elliott Smith influences are easy to distinguish.Permitting them selves to take a great liberty, making many references, Wooden Saints’ uniqueness remains undiminished. The love for strong melodies and clever lyrics always prevails and automatically makes every song linger in the listener’s head.
ReplyDeleteDuring live performances, Wooden Saints consists of a formation of ten, which is best described as a revolving door; band members constantly switching roles and instruments. Two drummers, two key players, four guitarists, a bass guitarist, a trombone player and ten singers perform with a rarely seen musicality, energy, intensity and devotion.
After two years of working under the radar, Wooden Saints are ready to present themselves to a bigger audience. Last summer they played several shows around the country, including De Parade and the Vondelpark open air theatre and from September Popronde took them to venues such as Merleyn and het Patronaat. 3Voor12 was one of the first to notice and put the track California Cacophony on their Hollandse Nieuwe selection.
